Palliative Care Programs
Palliative care improves the quality of life for patients facing serious
illness and offers an extra layer of support for families. Specialty-trained
teams of physicians, advance practice and registered nurses, physician's
assistants, social workers, chaplains, and more work in partnership with
a patient’s physician to provide relief from the pain, side effects
and stress that can accompany illness and treatment.
Appropriate at any stage in a serious illness and at any age, palliative
care can be provided at the same time as treatments meant to cure the
condition or disease.
Providence St. Joseph Health provides palliative care that is consistent
with our core values of Compassion, Dignity, Justice, Excellence and Integrity.
Our care is aligned with our mission and commitment to provide exemplary
whole person care.
Palliative Practice Group (PPG) supports development and expansion of palliative care teams and initiatives
throughout the Providence enterprise. Providing best practice expertise,
education and tailored guidance to individual teams and leadership at
the ministry, regional and enterprise level continues to demonstrate higher
quality outcomes and reduced costs in overall health care by focusing
on four pillars:
Access: Create a unified strategy across the Providence system to enhance equity
in access to the highest quality of care for all our patients.
Culture: Palliative care is integrated and aligned with all key service lines to
ensure goal alignment and patient-centered approaches are the standard
of care for all plans of care, irrespective of diagnosis or prognosis.
Quality: Patients can expect a consistently exceptional experience with palliative
care services at all Providence ministries that meets or exceeds national
standards and best known practices.
Future: Actively engaged in growth and development of the Palliative Care service
line and workforce to strengthen sustainability of the specialty and grow
patient access across all settings.
