National Healthcare Decisions Day

If you were suddenly seriously ill or injured and couldn’t speak for yourself, who would?

Most of us haven’t had a conversation about serious illness, haven’t selected a trusted decision maker, and haven’t completed an advance directive.

National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD) exists to inspire, educate and empower the public and providers about the importance of advance care planning. NHDD is an initiative to encourage patients to express their wishes regarding healthcare and for providers and facilities to respect those wishes, whatever they may be.

Participate by hosting your own event or workshop to encourage advance care planning:

  • Sponsor a lunch & learn and invite an expert to discuss palliative care and hospice
  • Show the "Why you need an advance directive" video
  • Host a book club event on "Four Things That Matter Most" or "Dying Well" by Dr. Ira Byock
  • Screen "Being Mortal or "End Game" and organize a panel discussion
  • Invite friends over to complete advance directives and be the witnesses for each other
  • Write a Love Letter!
