Providence in solidarity with Black Lives Matter
National protests began in Minneapolis on May 26, 2020 following the killing
of George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, in which Derek Chauvin, a white
police officer, knelt on his neck 8 minutes and 46 seconds —assisted
by three other police officers—after pinning the handcuffed man
to the ground during an arrest the previous day. Protests continued into
June, as social justice transcended social distancing in a time of lingering
Coronavirus pandemic.
On Friday, June 5, 2020, Providence caregivers joined others in a moment
of silence to honor Mr. Floyd and the national pain.
