Honor Service

On Tuesday, June 2nd, the Spiritual Care Department at Little Company of Mary, Torrance, hosted a virtual Service of Remembrance for those who died in the hospital during the last three months of the COVID-19 pandemic. Recognizing that in many cases loved ones were not able to be present for their deaths, nor able to hold services honoring their lives, this virtual gathering sought to fill the need for ritual and give space for thanksgiving and grief. Caregivers from the ministry were also invited and several joined in the meaningful event. The service featured live singing by a soloist, readings of reflection and inspiration, and the naming of the deceased, accompanied by candle lighting and the ringing of a bowl. Approximately fifty friends, family members and Caregivers logged in and participated. One expression of thanks received afterwards said this:

Thank you for the wonderful service. The service was so touching with the poignant readings and the gifted singer!

It was especially meaningful to honor my dad (and the others who lost their lives) since we haven't had the chance to have a service for him yet.

My sisters, mom and I will remember the readings and apply them in our lives as we move forward in our loss.

Thank you again
